The little voice | Mary | Sunday, May 4, 2008 |
Question: Dear brother , I wonder if you could explain exactly what is "The Little Voice". When I returned to the faith several years ago I was surprised on a few occasions in front of the blessed Eucharist to hear a voice speak while I was praying saying "Thank you for coming" or "I love you" and as I left the church once "Please come again", but havn`t heard it for years. I`m not a schizophrenic either. Was it" the little voice" that's spoken off and if it is why do i not hear it now. Thank you |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Mary: What you experienced was one example of "the little voice." In this case you heard something specific. It sounds to me like it was God speaking to you. The reason you haven't experienced that lately is perhaps because you do not need that experience right now. God does not usually speak to people that way except when He feels the need is there. So maybe you do not need that right now. But, usually, the little small voice is not something so direct. Rather it is the inner voice of your conscience telling you the right thing to do or it is the still small voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to you. That "speaking" however will usually come to you not as a talking voice, but as a feeling, an urge, a knowing, an inner realization (similar to your conscience) that you know is God. As you get closer to God the easier it will become to "hear" this still small voice and to know that it is Him and not yourself.
