Canticles and gospel readings for Vigils. | Lee | Wednesday, November 3, 2004 |
Question: The complete 4-volume Office does have all the gospels for the Sundays of the year, but only gives the chapter/verse references for the vigils of most feasts and solemnities. If someone did want to use the (always optional) vigils for, say, All Saints, or St. Luke, or what have you, they would need access to a Missal for the gospels. This was done as a concession to save space in the printed volumes, but it does mean you need an extra book on feasts and solemnities (not Sundays) if you choose to extend Matins. This will all be addressed, however, in the close-to-completion 5th volume. The 5th volume, scheduled for release any day (though a translation will probably take years), will contain full gospel texts for the vigils, as well as the complete 2-year cycle for Matins. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+
Dear Lee: Ah, I got you now. I wasn't sure what you were referring to. I have never used the optional vigils. Until the new volume comes out, I would presume any translation of the Gospels approved for Liturgy would be permitted. God Bless, |
