Sign of the Cross & other questions... Joseph Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Question:

Hello,

Which concluding prayers do you make the sign of the Cross in? For example, I know when I say May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life, I concurrently make the sign of the Cross. What about the conclusion for the Daytime prayer, Let us praise the Lord and give Him thanks, and Nighttime prayer, May the Lord grant us a restful night and a peaceful death?

Also, is it ok to burn incense during the office, assuming, of course, Im in my home, and is it ok to have a candle lit? This may sound trivial, but I want to be an accordance with the Church without doing anything outside of the Office guidelines. I do this out of reverence. I like to think that the prayer is rising up to God.

Thanks so much for your site. It continues to be so helpful and a blessing.

Joseph

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Joseph:

The concluding Day and Night prayers are without the sign of the Cross.

The candle and incense is a nice touch that does not intrude upon the liturgy. It can be done or not done as one wishes.  I use both candles and insence myself when I am in my prayer chapel.

I praise God that our web apostolate has been beneficial to you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
