The New Latin Psalter orderded by Pope Pius X11 David Saturday, August 14, 2004

Question:

Dear Father, I am teaching myself Latin so I may one day pray the Hours in Latin. I have a book titled "The New Psalter" which is a compendium of the Psalms in Latin/English . It was translated by Father Charles J. Callan. The New Latin Psalter was ordered by His Holiness Pope Pius X11 so this collection is obviously before our current approved edition. When I pray the Office, may I use this book for the Psalms? love, David

Dear David:

Thanks for the promotion, but I am but a lowly lay brother in private vows and not a priest.

It is great that you are learning Latin and it will be a great privilege to be able to say the Divine Office in Latin. When you do, however, you will need to use the official Latin Text.

You can find a link to buy the Latin Text on our Resources Page: http://www.saint-mike.org/qa/do/resources.asp

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
