The Completeness of the CBP and the Daughters of St. Paul editions Michael Saturday, July 31, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatious'

I do use the 4 volume set, but only at home; I take the single volume with me when I travel. I also notice that many are forgetting that these single volume editions are complete in their own way; they do have the entire 4 week psalter of the Office of Readings near the back of both CBP and DP along with selections of readings for each seasons- look at the table of contents in the beginning of each books. I have each of the above mentioned Office Books, including the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary- which I sometimes use on an ordinary day (non-feast or Solemnity), of course, all things considered, it depends on each persons taste. Enjoy whatever editions you may have. Peace to all who pray the Office.

Michael, MI (MILITIA IMMACULATA)

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Michael:

Thanks for your comments. It is true that the Psalter for the Office of Readings is in the One Volume editions, however, the Psalter without the complete readings is like driving a car on the rims without tires :)  -- it is complete in its own way, but not truly complete.

When traveling I usually take the volume of the 4-volume set that applies to the time of year so that I have the complete Office with me. The only exception I make on that is if I will be going into a situation where I would not want to take an expensive book and risk getting it lost, stolen, or destroyed. In that case, I take the cheaper one-volume editions.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
