Question Title Posted By Question Date
Completeness of the 1-Volume Editions Aaron Thursday, July 29, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother,
How complete are the offices in these editions when compared to the 4-volume editions, respectively? Do the 4-volume editions carry more prayer options and hymns compared to the 1-volume breviaries in terms of complete offices?

I would just like to know if you could spare some time doing a comparision between the CBP edition and the Daughters of St Paul Edition both for the 1 volume and the 4 volume editions.

Another question I would like to ask is: where or who can I contact regarding the LOTH breviary for the UK and countries using British translations? There has been a poor number of contacts to ask about British breviaries, which to me is still shrouded in mystery - which is part of the reason why the LOTH is not catching on here where countries are only authorised with British breviary editions

Thank you and God bless.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Aaron:

The primary difference between the one volume and four volume version is that the four volume sets contain the complete Office of Readings.

The primary difference between the Daughers of St. Paul Edition and the Catholic Book Publishers edition is that the St. Paul Edition has the complete office (minus Office of Readings) and the Catholic Book Publishers has only the complete Morning, Evening, and Night prayers. It has only a sampling of Day Prayers and Readings.

The Catholic Book Publishing does have the music scores for the hymns which is a nice touch.

As for the approved Breviary in the UK I really do not know. You might contact your local diocese. They may be able to direct you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
