Question:

When praying Lauds and Vespers in community does the leader at the Reading say "A reading from the ..." and close with "The word of the Lord? In some instructions it states that since the community gathered has the reading in front of them this intro and closing are unnecessary. How say you?

Continued blessings on your work for our Church.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Deacon:

In common or alone the closing of "The word of the Lord" is unnecessary. How I was trained by Benedictines we introduce the reading with, for example, "A reading from Colossians" but without any closing.

There is no need for the closing, "the word of the Lord",  as in the Divine Office we have a Responsory after the reading.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
