Question Title Posted By Question Date
Vigils for lent Marcel Tuesday, February 8, 2005

Question:

I want to begin waking up to pray Vigils each night for Lent, probably around 3 am. What would the protocol be? It seems that I would pray the Invitatory and Vigils in that order. Is that right?

Also, someone had mentioned (Lee, 11/3/04) that there are particular Gospel readings appropriate for certain days. Can you recommend a book or website for the proper references? This seems it would be particularly appropriate for Lent within Vigils.

Thanks for a wonderful wealth of information.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Marcel:

Yes, the Invitatory is said at the beginning of your liturgical day. If your liturgical day begins with the Office of Readings at 3am, then then recite the Invitatory before begining the Office.

The Extended Gospel Readings for the Lenten Office of Readings is in the Appendix at the back of the Breviary.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
