Question: Is it acceptable to pray some of the prayers of the Divine Office in Latin, such as the Glory Be to the Father and the Lord's Prayer? Also, would chanting some (or all) of the prayers be allowed by a layperson during private recitation of the Office? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Rob: Sure, praying Latin for some of the prayers is great. Chanting is the way the Office is designed. It is a great practice to chant the office even when alone, although it is not required in private recitation. I always chant the office when alone, unless I am on a plane, train, bus, or walking in a Mall. I don't do it then because I would be arrested for doing violence to singing. :) God bless, |
