Question Title Posted By Question Date
Elijah and the ark Susie Saturday, September 4, 2004

Question:

First and foremost I would like to say God bless you in your work for the kingdom! God surely adds the growth, doesnt he?

Now my love for Jewish culture and tradition is truly the inspiration for my starting RCIA for they were the first People of God. Even our Lord Jesus was a Jew inpiring me to circumcision of the heart.

My questions are two that are closely related I would think and they are as follows.

A Jhvhs witness said that Elijah was not taken into heaven or maybe wasnt kept in heaven . To prove this is wrong I wanted to say that Elijah was John the Baptist which Im not sure of. I dont Know if this is the case and to any insight in acordd with Church teaching I humbly submit. If that is the case what manner was his birth in relation to being miraculous , how did it happen?

Also If Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant does that mean the old one was destroyed I would think not, think of course! Thanks for your help.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Susie:

On the first question: Elijah as not John the Baptist. There is no such thing as reincarnation or any other sort of transmigration of the soul from one body to another.

God created a unique and individual soul for each person at the moment of conception.

The Bible clearly states that Elijah was taken up into heaven:

2 King 2:11  "And as they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven."

Remember, the Jehovah Witness are not Christian and the Bible they use is not a real valid Bible.

On the second question, yes, Mary is the ark of the New Covenant. This does not automatically mean that the Mosaic Ark is destroyed. It could still be in existence, no one really knows.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
