Your response to the upside down cross question... | Joseph | Wednesday, August 18, 2004 |
Question: on the Chair of Peter was very informative. I have been a Catholic all my life, and have always believed that the upside down cross was a satanic symbol. I was quite relieved to find out that this was untrue. It does seem like the devil always uses the Catholic Church instead of any other denominations to pick on, for example, The Exorcist, The Omen, etc. Clearly, even the devil acknowledges the true Church. The website that the previous writer was referring to is very anti Catholic, which leads me to my question. The other day I was at a gym working out when I overheard two people discussing about all Catholics going to Hell. When this situation comes my way again... and it will, do I walk away, or do I attempt to defend my Faith? It seems like the latter does not work since these people are not willing to listen. Your website has been a priceless resource for a lot of people, and I have recommended many people to it. I pray that this site will continued to be blessed and help many others. God bless and PAX! Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+
Dear Joe: Thank you for your kind words. It is always a blessing to hear that our apostolate has helped so many people. As for the two people at the gym, you need to ask the Holy Spirit. In most cases like that it is unlikely to be a productive exercise to approach such people. St. Paul tells us to avoid unproductive argumentation. Often confronting a anti-Catholic to try to convince him that his attitudes about the Catholic Church are not true would be much the same effect as a black man approaching the Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan to try to persuade him to change his mind about black people. But we need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. God may have a mission for us and design for us to confront a person like those in the gym that you describe, but maybe not; thus.... ...As Mary said to the men at the marriage at Cana, "Go ask Him and do what He tells you."
