Question:

I also have difficulties in showing that same Power of Mercy and forgiveness to the accusor who was a friend till I found out that he was behind the whole mess. I keep asking myself, "What if he crosses my path; I know what I am capable of doing, I know myself too well; can I hold back from striking, and extend a merciful gesture??" If I want mercy shown to me than I must show mercy to him no matter how hard it will be. I pray that my guardian angel will hold back my arm and use it for mercy instead of striking.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Michael:

I will pray with you on that intention. Remember, we will receive mercy as we give it to others, and will receive forgiveness as we offer it to others.

Remember that forgiveness is not about letting the other guy off the hook. Whatever he has done he will be held accountable in this life or in the next.

Forgivenness is not about forgetting, it is about letting go. As long we we do not forgive we hold OURSELVES in bondage to the other person. We need to forgive to let ourselves off the hook and get on with our lives.

Forgiving does not mean that we must be friends with the person or even to like him. It means that we let go and let God deal with him.

Such forgivenes is important for the health of one's personality and psychology as well as critical to the spiritual health of the soul and even to the salvation of one's soul.

We well be in prayer for you.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
