Son says RCC corrupt Elizabeth Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Hello,

My son was raised RC and has strong faith in God/Jesus, and attended Mass regularly until the past year.

I just became aware that he has filled his head with strong anti-Catholic trash, among which he said the RC Church is vile and corrupt and he will never step into a RC Church again, and that going to church is not necessary because it is what is in the heart. I have spoken to him about his accusations, (re: Graven images, etc) and shown him Scriptures (esp where God ordered the Israelites to make a bronze serpent on a pole in order for snake bitten people to be healed - and explained exactly what the word graven means, among other things).

He said that when Pope Benedict became pope he opened the account books (money, etc) that showed the Church is a tax haven for the rich and wealthy.

He also said Pope Francis is conspiring with the Muslims to make a one-world order, (he meets in secret behind closed doors with them?) and other such nonsense.

I was wondering: Do you know where my son is getting this mis-information from? What does he mean when he said the Church is a tax haven for the rich?

I do not know how to respond because I haven't heard this before. I am praying he returns to Mass and his previous Faith.

Dear Elizabeth:

There were some problems with the Vatican bank that are now being resolved.  We must remember that the Church is not a resort for saints, but a hospital for sinners. There is sin in all denominations because all Christian fellowship are composed of flawed human beings.

Your son is obviously being feed opinions against the Church by a hateful bigot or group who will only see the negative, exaggerate and distort problems that exist, and make up problems that do not exist in order to support his prejudice

You have done the right thing by addressing his issues, explaining the faith to him, but he will not likely listen. When one gets this steeped into error and prejudice anything said to such persons will fall on deaf ears. It is usually a case of "I have made up my mind, do not confuse me with the facts."

Keep praying for him. We have a prayer in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog that applies to a situation like this entitled, Hedge Prayer for Return of Wayward Catholics. Also, Prayer for our Children.

You may want to rebuke the spirits of anti-catholic ism and the spirit of hatred and bigotry. This may be accomplished with the prayer, Rebuking Particular Spirits-Proxy.

I know how heart-breaking this is. Persevere in prayer. Seek the intercession of St. Monica as she persevered in praying for her wayward son.
